Native Range: Southeast AsiaThe Eclectus Parrot is a medium parrot species within the family Psittaculidae, best known for its pronounced sexual dimorphism. Males typically exhibit bright green plumage with blue and red underwing accents and a distinct orange upper mandible (often referred to as “candy corn”). Females display predominantly red and violet plumage with a black beak. This species includes several subspecies distributed across island groups in the South Pacific region. In the wild, Eclectus Parrots inhabit lowland rainforests, forest edges, and monsoon forests, where they nest primarily in tree cavities. Parrots in captivity are still wild animals with all their natural instincts. Your overall success and experience with any species of companion parrot is greatly impacted by positive reinforcement training. A parrot’s behavior reflects both the environment they live in and the training they receive. All of our hand-fed babies are hatched and raised in our own breeding facility and weaned onto a diverse, high-variety diet. Our parrots are never clipped and are fully flighted. They are smart and can be great talkers. They are friendly but also do well with some independence. Eclectus require a very dynamic diet, we encourage a diet consisting of as much variety as possible. Ideally, the minimum cage size for this bird would be 36’’ long, 24’’ wide and 66’’ high with ¾’’ wire spacing. At Parrot Stars we focus on education, nutrition, and conservation. We work very hard to help educate our customers on parrot companionship. Prior to taking a bird home, we will provide information on proper housing, creating a safe environment, diet, behavior, hormones and much more. No question will go unanswered. Every hand fed baby is weaned on to a high variety diet. They are weaned onto fruits and veggies, a soak and sprout mix we make here in store, high variety seed that we also make here in store, and naturally colored pellet.
