Boarding

Parrot Stars offers a safe, clean and professional boarding service for companion parrots. Our boarding room is attended to by our highly trained Parrot Stars’ staff. The general public does not have access to the boarding room to ensure the safety of the birds.

Daily Routine:

  • All water dishes are washed, disinfected and replenished daily.
  • Dry food is offered at the instruction of the customer, we are happy to follow any feeding guidelines that are provided.
  • We always ensure that the dry food is offered on time and accurately.
  • Fresh food (chopped vegetables and fruit mixed with a soak and sprout blend) is offered daily at the approval of the customer. The customer is welcome to provide their own fresh food as well. All fresh food is refrigerated. Fresh dishes are washed and disinfected, and removed mid-day to prevent spoilage.
  • All cages are cleaned daily.

Prepare For Boarding:

  • Bring a minimum of 2 of your parrot's toys.
  • Provide a dry diet & feeding instructions.

ALL parrots must test negative for the following diseases in order to be boarded at Parrot Stars:
  • Chlamydia psitacia
  • Avian Polyoma Virus
  • Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease
  • Avian Borna Virus
More Disease Testing can be done by most certified Avian Vets. Parrot Stars’ offers disease testing (click here to purchase). We collect a small sample of blood from a minor toenail clip. We also collect a sample of feces on a cotton swab. We need at least two weeks to receive the results. Testing results are valid for the entire year, unless any additional, untested parrots, have been added to the household after the tests.

ALL parrots must be brought in an enclosed pet carrier. The carrier must be clearly labeled with both the customer’s last name & the name of the parrot.

The customer must provide all toys, Parrot Stars ONLY provides the cage & perching. Toys can be brought with the parrot in a bag clearly labeled with the customer's last name and the name of the parrot. The customer is also welcome to purchase toys at Parrot Stars at the time of drop off. We require that each parrot MUST have a minimum of two toys at the time of drop off.

We recommend the customer provides both the dry diet & feeding instructions for each parrot. We will happily feed our own, size appropriate dry food, only at the approval of the customer. Any food can be brought with the parrot in a bag clearly labeled with the customer's last name and the name of the parrot.

5 of 5 Boarding December 10, 2022
Reviewer: Chris Ceaya from Des Plaines IL
I have 2 quaker parrots which were purchased at Parrot Stars.  I have boarded them there 8 or 10 times over the last several years for anywhere from 1 to 10 days each time.  Every time my birds come home clean, happy and healthy.  Every staff person who has cared for them while boarded has shown caring and competent behavior.  The addition of Ken who now manages the boarding program has also been great.  The staf all gets to know the birds well, and truly exhibit such caring behavior toward my birds.  I'm sure that must be true for all boarders.  I truly appreciate all the staff for their knowledge, caring and competence.  Additionally, the management staff have always been so helpful and knowledgeable.

We needed to find a place that cares for birds in the same way we care. parrot stars is the best option. They have the space and the experience to take care of our feathered babies. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. I will take them again there if I need it.
Highly recommend this place.

5 of 5 Boarding our Penny October 14, 2022
Reviewer: Jeanne Mondschean from Oak Brook, Il
The staff at Parrot Stars is fantastic.  We have boarded our Senegal parrot, Penny multiple times now. Every time we get there, it is clean, organized and they are ready to check in our baby. Not only do they recognize Penny and know his likes and dislikes, they recognize us when we are there shopping without our bird. Ken is particularly fabulous.  He works well with our bird and us completely honest with us about Penny's behavior.  He takes amazing care of the birds. Penny loves going there and has even picked up some phrases. We wouldn't take our Penny anywhere else for boarding.  Thank you Parrot Stars for taking such good care of our little guy.

5 of 5 Great service October 11, 2022
Reviewer: Celina C. from Arlington Heights, IL
I was nervous to leave my Galah and my Quaker for over 2 weeks, but I knew that the staff at Parrot Stars would do a great job. Whenever I come into the store it's clear to me that they care about their birds. This was confirmed for me when the staff member taking care of Bebe and Birdie had a lot of kind things to say about his time with them. The team worked with me to set up drop-off and pick-up times, and they have policies in place (such as disease testing, daily food bowl cleaning, and requiring toys for boarding) to ensure the birds are happy and healthy. I recommend Parrot Stars for anyone in need of boarding services.
